Lasting change can only occur if it is owned and driven by the people affected by it. In its most basic form, democracy is fundamentally local. Effective action and accountability can be assured only when issues and actors are rooted locally.
We use the Community Capacity Enhancement (CCE) methodology which was first adopted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a way of working with communities. The programme gives focus back to the power of conversations and allows community members to come up with solutions and community action projects to solve the problems.
The process is facilitated by trained facilitators with an objective of creating a safe space for dialogue to empower communities to talk about difficult issues, and ultimately to solve their own problems, each individual treated as an agent of change.
Our dialogue and social mobilisation events are intended to provide an opportunity for stakeholder or communities to create concrete plans to tackle the issues that affect them.

Highlights:
- Heritage Transformation road shows for the National Heritage Council in nine provinces leading to the formulation and adoption of the South African Heritage Transformation Charter.
- The Waste Act came into effect on 1 July 2009 and since then, the Managing nine provincial road shows for the Department of Environmental Affairs to create awareness, share information with the general public and involve the media extensively in profiling Waste Management Act, promote integrated pollution and waste management and shift from fragmented and uncoordinated waste management approaches towards a holistic approach to waste management.
- Coordinating and managing various consultative Imbizo’s to promote the reclamation and living out the values of a just and caring society for the National Heritage Council’s Ubuntu in Nation Building Programme.
- The Litha Team has taken up the clarion call from Nelson Mandela who has given 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. As exemplified by our support of Mandela Day, Lead SA and Fly the Flag, we accept Mr Mandela call when he said: 'It is time for new hands to lift the burdens of the world”.
